Community Description:
Stettler is a great place to practice medicine and to raise a family. Locally there are numerous recreation, sport, hunting, cultural activities and programs available for the entire family all year long. Located near the resort area of Buffalo Lake, Stettler is conveniently located a few hours from Edmonton and Calgary and 85 km from the City of Red Deer. As the regional hub for east central Alberta, Stettler has major department and grocery stores, specialized retail and professional services. The local economy supports manufacturing, construction, resource, and agriculture which are attracting news residents to the area. The region is home to over 15,000 residents and draws people from over 20,000 homes across the region.
Modern schools welcome students from K-12 and seniors students participate in international student exchange programs. School sport teams have produced many provincial champions and the Performance Arts Centre at the school is used by students, as well as local and visiting performers. Stettler is home of Alberta Prairie Railway Excursions and is a gateway to the Canadian Badlands.

Physicians are remunerated for being on call in the Emergency Room.
The rate is $23.84 an hour and is paid for a total of 14 hours on weekdays from 5 pm to 7am and 24 hours a day on weekends and statutory holidays. Frequency of on call shifts vary by community.

A Flat Fee is paid to physicians who practice & reside in this community of $17,318.47 per year provided his/her annual income for insured services is greater than $50,000. (Residency conditions apply, including living in the eligible community for nine of the previous twelve months ending on the payment date.) The Variable Fee Premium paid is an additional 16.50% for insured services provided in this community. Rural, Remote, Northern Program (RRNP) - Please note, payments through the RRNP are capped at $60,000 per physician per year.

Retention Benefit - supports and promotes the retention of physicians in Alberta by rewarding their continuous years of service to Albertans. Physicians receive between $4,400 and $11,000 depending on their years of service to Albertans.

Medical Liability Reimbursement - reimburses physicians for their medical liability protection costs less a $1,000 deductible.

Continuing Medical Education - reimburses physicians for eligible continuing medical education costs. Each eligible physician receives a $2,500 annual allotment which can be carried forward for up to three years.

Parental Leave Program - provides $1,000 per week for up to 17 weeks to physician parents of a newborn or newly adopted child.

Business Cost Program - addresses escalating practice costs in community based practices. This fee modifier is added automatically to select office visits and consultations. This program applies across the province and all physicians who provide visit services in an office based setting will receive an additional $2.75 with the exception of Calgary and Airdrie where the fee modifier is $3.25 on select office visits and consultations.
