Medical Staff Appointments and Clinical Privileges
Any physician who wishes to practice within an Alberta Health Services facility is required to make application for appointment to the AHS Medical Staff. Physicians need to be eligible for/be approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) for licensure and registration as a physician before they can qualify for a medical staff appointment. If the physician has not contacted the College to determine their eligibility, they will be requested to do so prior to further consideration of their application.
Physicians who are eligible for licensure in Alberta may proceed with their application for appointment and clinical privileges to the Medical Affairs Office of AHS. Appointments can be made in any one of four categories: probationary, active, temporary and community. In most cases, the applicant is asked to submit a resume with references who are able to attest to the applicant’s professional, educational and interpersonal skills, as well as other material specified in the application form.
