Alberta College of Family Physicians (ACFP)
The Alberta College of Family Physicians is a chapter of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, a national, voluntary organization comprised of more than 15,000 family physicians across the country. The College represents over 1,500 family physicians in Alberta.
The College strives to improve the health of Canadians by promoting high standards of medical education and care in family practice, by contributing to public understanding of healthy living, by supporting ready access to family physician services, and by encouraging research and disseminating knowledge about family medicine.
The Alberta College of Family Physicians is the voice of family practice in Alberta. As an active organization, the College is composed of many family physicians willing to commit their time and energy to advancing excellence in the practice of family medicine. In all of its activities, the Alberta College upholds the four principles of family medicine that serve family physicians individually and collectively:
- The family physician is a skilled clinician,
- The family physician is a resource to a defined practice population,
- Family medicine is a community-based discipline, and
- The doctor-patient relationship is primary to the role of the family physician.
